Voices (In The Trash) – Collectibles and other discarded objects as a mirror for a disposable society.

As a poet I have always been more interested in the periphery than in the centre. I am attracted to the less obvious, and more dissolute.
This work – Voices (In The Trash) – has come about through the impact on me of a visit to the massive collectibles, antiques and trash and treasure barn that is The Mill Market, in Daylesford, Victoria.
One warehouse of a hundred stores filled with the voices of once loved and appreciated objects, now moved on, with the possibility of a new home, but no certainty of being loved again.
An appreciation of value, not necessarily of worth.
I fell in love with these marginal objects and their voices and had to take them home with me in the form of an image on my digital phone and a voice in my mind.

Frank Prem has been a storytelling poet for forty years. When not writing or reading his poetry to an audience, he fills his time by working as a psychiatric nurse. He has been published in magazines, e-zines and anthologies, in Australia and in a number of other countries, and has both performed and recorded his work as ‘spoken word’. He and his wife live in the beautiful township of Beechworth in northeast Victoria (Australia).
